Corner House, 2006, Newtown, NSW.

The project involved restoration of an existing terrace house in Newtown and the creation of a new 75m2 corner block equal in size to the other 9 terraces in that row. The site, in a heritage conservation area, required the new work to follow the envelope of the row that it was to end. The challenge was to manipulate the space within the envelope to better suit contemporary demands and create a house that was economic, durable, sustainable and light filled. For all its constraints the house has an apparent generosity of space, open plan living on ground, a large bathroom and main bed and an attic room with views up and down the side street.
