Mackenzie Pronk Architects Sustainability Framework

We aim to achieve best practice sustainable design and construction for our clients and the environment. We aim to engage our clients and use our profile to share a vision of an improved and more sustainable design and construction sector. We aim to be changemakers in sustainable design and building.

Mackenzie Pronk Architects aims to produce high quality sustainable architectural design working closely with our clients to craft unique, appropriate, sustainable and cost effective design solutions.

Mackenzie Pronk Architects strives to preserve our environment, protect our planet and improve the communities in which we work. Our goals are to minimize the negative environmental impact of buildings through improved efficiency and moderation in the use of materials, energy, space and the ecosystem at large.

Mackenzie Pronk Architects are a carbon neutral business and will put systems in place to aim to achieve a 30% reduction of carbon used in the construction of our projects by 2030. We seek to:

- further reduce our own operational carbon impacts

- acquire carbon offsets in excess of our operational carbon

- monitor our business to ensure ongoing carbon neutral operation

- map our business against key Sustainability development Goals (SDG’s)

- make it small / re-use / recycle / retrofit before build new

- build from biodegradable materials / build from recycled or waste products

- reduce waste and pollution / reduce materials consumption / reduce extractive materials / eliminate RED list materials

- increase energy efficiency of building fabric- seek suppliers with low CO2 emissions products - quantify Carbon emissions on every project from the design stages

- produce guidelines on how to achieve sustainable outcomes

- consider the circular economy / consider cradle to grave for all materials specified in our buildings

- facilitate clients to offset their construction carbon & their operational carbon / encourage clients, builders / trades towards improved practices

We value memorable, high quality, enduring and low environmental impact design. We value a collaborative design process with clients, builders and suppliers.

We hope to continually evolve our architectural practice to keep pace with new technologies while increasing a nature-based design practice using responsibly sourced materials. We hope to design individual projects as part of a whole ecosystem of urban and natural environments, reducing environmental impacts on each project. We value the natural environment and biodiversity and hope to enhance and protect it.
