Whitemans Commercial Stores

A heritage listed 1890 emporia on Argyle street in Camden that was almost burnt to the ground in 2020. The project includes the twin challenge of rebuilding to original heritage details whilst bringing the whole building into compliance. The scope has included access, egress and fire services as well as the vagaries of numerous individual tenancies.

The building has many challenges to meet code and Mackenzie Pronk has shepherded the project through multiple performance solutions in the disciplines of fire protection, energy rating and disabled access, whilst navigating the balance between the heritage values and contemporary requirements.

The building includes a 200 seat restaurant, a gym, and multiple smaller tenancies which when complete will become a premier destination in Camden as the original building had been in the late 1800’s.
